Provides training to educators, parents and other support groups in special education. Conducts evaluation on the effectiveness of the in-service development programs in special education. Organizes international seminars, workshops and conventions on special education.

- Learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Autism, Syndrome Down, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities.
- Inclusive education, special remedial education
- Education to support the gifted and talented.
- Sexuality education, sports, performing arts, culture, IEP, awareness, Counselling, early intervention.
- Research methodology, assessment and pedagogy.
- To build relationship/network in special education involving various agencies regionally and internationally.
- To conduct training programs on special education to teachers and managers of special education institutions.
Training Programmes.
The Centre conducts courses and workshop which are relevant and constitutes leading-edge knowledge in special education. These courses are coordinated by its staff from its Training and Consultation Division. SEAMEO SEN’s training programmes consist of regular courses, customized courses, in-country courses, workshop, seminars, Third Country Training Programme (TCTP), post-graduate programmes and internship programme. In order to ensure excellence in conduct of the training programmes, the centre emphasizes on quality course inputs and outputs, as well as continuous programme evaluation. The workshops are facilitated by specialists, local and foreign consultants and coordinated by SEAMEO SEN’s Training Coordinators.
Enhancing Professional Staff Input.
To further enhance the content of the courses and workshop, it is important that the knowledge and skill of the staff are current and updated. As part of the effort to update knowledge on current trends and issues in special education, the academic staff of SEAMEO SEN will continually participate in international conferences, seminars and meetings
Quality Course Outputs.
Teaching resources are developed by Regular Course participants as part of the course output, with supervision by SEAMEO SEN’s staff. The resources in the form of lesson plans, teaching activities and teaching materials will be tested and revised through school try-outs.
Programme Evaluation.
The evaluation of the Centre’s programmes are continually carried out in order to assess feedback from participants and to improve the quality of the courses. Feedback obtained from these evaluations form important considerations in the design of future programmes. In addition, the Centre plans to carry out impact study through survey on past participants of SEAMEO SEN’s regular courses to evaluate the relevance and usefulness of the Regular Courses. The Impact Study will be carried out once every two fiscal years.
